Church in Nicollet, MN

I remember the times we went out to church at Nicollet in MN. I would pack a paper bag with my overnight clothes and toothbrush and stuff in hopes of getting to spend the night at Keith and Sonja’s house. My uncle was the pastor and we would go to church and then over for dinner at their house, I remember the way the gravy was always the best at Sonja’s house, even better than the KFC gravy.

My cousin john would shove us through the window and we would open the door and everybody would tumble down the stairs to watch wrestling because they got more channels than we did in the Minnesota River valley. Also cause during the commercials we would act out the wrestling stunts on each other. Well that's not exactly accurate, john was the second youngest in his family and everyone older than him thought he was too young for them so he got ignored a lot, when we came over he got to be the older kid since he was at least 4 years older than us, so when I say we practice the wrestling moves I mean he would try them out on us, body slams and suplexes and all kinds of other stunt moves which shouldn't be attempted in the privacy of your own home.

I remember the time I was at their house for my cousin Rachel’s birthday party and I had to take a dump and I clogged the toilet, I flushed and turned to walk out of the bathroom when I heard a kind of splatting  splishing sound, I lifted the lid and stuck the plunger into the bottom but all I managed to do was displace more water and get the toes of my shoes wet along with the linoleum -white and powder blue- floor.

I remember getting some towels and using them to stop the tainted water from flowing into the hallway. I can still feel the big soft fluffy red and blue towels they had, ours at home were always flat suckers but these were puffy like the name brand toilet paper my friend family used.
